INFORMATION:
Welcome to your new favorite lemon-scented herb. Lemon Verbena, (Latin: Aloysia citrodora) a species of flowering plant known for its deep lemony aroma has been used as a flavoring agent and herbal tea for centuries. The planted started its herbaceous journey in South America where it was discovered by the Spanish in the 17th century. The Spanish, who began cultivating the plant for its oil, brought cuttings back to Spain, where the plant quickly grew in popularity. In fact, two alternate nicknames for the plant, "Lemon Luisa" and "Yerba Louisa" are derived from the real life Marie Louisa, Princess of Parma (1748-1819) who would go on to become the Queen of Spain.

In addition to getting the royal treatment, Lemon Verbena also comes with a bit of folklore. In some parts of Europe, the herb is said to help attract love. In others, it is said that a cup of lemon verbena tea can prevent dreaming. (A quality much admired by those suffering from nightmares.) Practitioners of traditional medicine also believe that the herb can help ease gout, depression and function as a natural insect repellant.
Naturally, here at Metropolitan Tea, our interest in all things Lemon Verbena lies primarily in its qualities as a self-drinking tisane and blending component. We?re pleased to report that in both cases, this organic version is firing on all lemony cylinders. As a blending component, it makes an excellent addition to any green or black tea blend, adding a welcome hint of lemony citrus. On its own, the cup it produces is dry and herbaceous with refreshing hints of lemon that go on for miles. We're sure you'll soon agree that when we said, "welcome to your new favourite herb", we weren't lying. Enjoy.
