INFORMATION:
Behold the everlasting glory that is fenugreek (Latin: Trigonella foenum graecum) - translation: Greek hay. Why 'Greek hay'? Great question. Apparently the name comes from an ancient practice of substituting regular hay for livestock, with fenugreek. How ancient? We're talking 4000 BCE. Also found in the tomb of Tutankhamen, fenugreek was used by ancient healers to treat a wide swatch of medical issues. From fever, to colic, flatulence, coughing fits, rickets, ulcers, gout and even baldness, herbalists of antiquity found practically no issue that couldn't be fixed with fenugreek.

Fenugreek also has a longstanding tradition of use by practitioners of Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India. There, adherents consider fenugreek seeds to be a 'warming' spice, and use it to enhance digestion and prevent stomach disorders. For this reason, in ayurvedic cooking fenugreek is often mixed with other spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, fennel and dried ginger.

We're particularly fond of these luxury fenugreek seeds brewed up into a nourishing tea. Thought to lower cholesterol, fight inflammation, aid diabetes and promote weight loss, fenugreek tea is easy to make and delightful to sip at any time of day. (Of course, you can also add these seeds to custom, multi-herb blends.) Three cheers for Greek hay!
