Ever been bitten by a serpent? Prepare thyself a tincture of burdock root. Say what? According to his 1653 masterwork, 'Complete Herbal', noted herbalist of olde England, Nicolas Culpepper wrote, 'the juice of the leaves, or rather the roots themselves, given to drink with old wine, doth wonderfully help the biting of any serpents.'
While we don't recommend blending this Organic Burdock Root with old wine (including it in a tea or herbal blend will do just fine, thanks) Burdock's place in the annals of traditional medicine are certainly worth exploring.
For example, in traditional Chinese medicine, this ancient root has been used for literally thousands of years to sooth the stomach and support skin health. In European folk medicine, an infusion of Burdock root was traditionally offered as a diuretic, and prescribed to promote digestion. Farther afield, in Japan, where the plant is known as gobo, the root is added to dishes and concoctions of all kinds, beloved for its flavor and antioxidant-rich makeup.
No matter where you are located, we've sourced this luxury grade, Organic Burdock root to help you round out the flavor and nutrient quotient of your own custom tea and herb blends. Brew a pot and sip away. (Please avoid serpents while doing so.)
